UBC Okanagan External Community Advisory Council

Purpose and Scope

The UBC Okanagan External Community Advisory Council, as it exists today, is the evolution of the UBC Okanagan President's Advisory Council.  Formed in 2004 by the Ministry of Advanced Education, the President's Advisory Council was conceived to better connect UBC with Okanagan communities and to guide the development of the Okanagan campus.

As UBC Okanagan has evolved, so too has the External Community Advisory Council. While the Council remains regional in its composition, the focus of the Council and the University has shifted as the Okanagan campus transitions towards national and international prominence as part of the UBC system.

The Council's membership draws from leaders within government, business and the community and is tasked with advising the Deputy Vice-Chancellor & Principal, President and Vice-Chancellor, Board of Governors, and the larger UBC community on matters of strategic importance.  When possible, the President will attend meetings of the Council.

As ambassadors of UBC and the Okanagan campus, members of the External Community Advisory Council provide an essential link between the University and the wider community, fostering opportunities for communication, collaboration, and continued sustainable growth.
