Indigenous Engagement

UBC’s Okanagan campus has the rare distinction and privilege of being a post-secondary institution founded in partnership with local Indigenous peoples.

We are grateful to the Okanagan Nation to be welcomed in Syilx territory and proud to serve the Syilx Okanagan communities and all Indigenous peoples, including through committed support of student access and success and Indigenous language revitalisation.

Aboriginal Advisory Committee

The Aboriginal Advisory Committee to the DVC considers the current state of Aboriginal activities on UBC’s Okanagan campus, identifies priority areas of focus for the future, and helps implement strategies to advance these initiatives.

Current priorities for the Committee include creating a professional development program for Indigenous awareness and cultural sensitivity, establishing an Aboriginal mentorship program for staff and faculty through an Indigenous Caucus, and Indigenous curriculum development.
